Walter Meyer III, M.D.

Dr. Meyer was born in Celina, Ohio. He is a graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Akron General Hospital in Akron, Ohio, and subsequently accepted a post doctorate fellowship in gastroenterology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He joined Dr. Tietke in practice in Huntsville in 1979. Dr. Meyer then introduced into the Huntsville area the new technique of endoscopic removal of gallstones from the bile duct.

Dr. Meyer is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as the subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology. Dr. Meyer is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Medical Association, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He is presently a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the UAB School of Medicine Huntsville. He has been honored by a number of the medical school classes as having the best clinical rotation and as best senior lecturer. He serves on the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Meyer organized the Nutritional Support Service at Huntsville Hospital and subsequently similar services were provided at the other area hospitals based on this model.

He has been honored to serve as Chief of Medicine at Huntsville Hospital. Dr. Meyer primarily works from the Center for Colon & Digestive Diseases' southeast facility located near Crestwood Hospital.

Dr. Meyer is married and is the father of four children. He enjoys woodworking and is highly skilled in this craft. Dr. Meyer is particularly adept at golf and has won various tournaments. He enjoys reading, tennis, and both snow and water skiing.
